Came here with a couple of friends for a casual weekday dinner and enjoyed the gumbo and spicy mango margarita I got. While I didn't opt for the traditional bbq, the gumbo was good and really hit the spot for a cozy meal. Portions are big and we all couldn't finish our plates. The location is a bit out of the way but easy to walk to and service was nice as well.

Needed a reasonably priced place with good food, drinks, atmosphere and selection. Did a Yelp search and found HBSH It was awesome. Very clean, staff was ok, and the food was Very flavorful arrived temperature appropriate but not at the same time. So we waited to eat together. Good spirit wine and beer selection. It was empty but I just think it was the time we sent Sunday around 545pm. Definite try for your BBQ Fix when

Pretty big BBQ guy with extensive visits throughout MO, KS, NC, TX. The brisket here is great - very nice crust and extremely tender. If anything, a touch salty. Corn bread had a nice crispy top and soft bottom but could use a little salt on its own - otherwise it was nice as a chaser essentially as it's very simple and corn-tasting. The mustard sauce isn't my favorite as most mustard sauces are too sweet and it is pretty standard. The BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy - pretty good, St. Louis style without the slight peppery taste. Beers and soda are reasonably priced, wait staff was attentive and kind. Sports bar vibe. Really only downside is the corn bread came out a little cooler than I like and the pricing - pretty sure it is the same price as Franklin's in Austin, which is hard to swallow for great but not quite Franklin's level meat even in a more expensive city. Will probably be back.

Stopped here after a quick visit to the jewelry center around the corner. I ordered the caesar salad and added some brisket on there for $7 extra. Worth it. My partner got the brisket sandwich and potato salad and loved it as well. Very tender meat and smoked to perfection. I enjoyed their house blonde ale too, very extensive beer and cocktail menu. Service was friendly :) Will definitely return when we're in the area!

Barbecue and the Bay Area. Southern culture vs. Tech Bros. Not two cultural groups with high intersectionality. Unfortunately, that is. Hardwood Bar & Smokery is a great, solid bbq place in the Bay area with a slight zing of an Asian-esque menu. It's not going to be something from Texas, but it gets the job done. I ordered the platter for 3, and we ended being full for the whole day. The meats were all-around solid, but I can't say mind-blowing coming from more BBQ-focused parts of the country. If you're someone visiting from a BBQ background, I would say: hold off unless you're desperate. But if your permanently located in the Bay Area, take your shot - eat here and be amazed or at very least, happy with your meal.

I ll start up front by saying it's been tough finding solid bbq in the Bay Area. There's not a lot of places that take it to the next level but Hardwood definitely does. The menu options are unique and innovative. Ive tried the nachos with pulled pork and it was fantastic. The meat was so tender and flavorful. The same could be said for the brisket as well. It reminds me of a place right out of Austin. The beer selection is great too. If you love bbq as much as I do, definitely check this place out.

Came in on Thursday afternoon. Didn't have too many patrons. But that's to be expected in the middle of the day. We were promptly greeted and advised to take a seat anywhere. We ordered the chicken wings, gumbo, and ribs. I felt the wings could have used a little bit more seasoning. I definitely ate the jalapeños that were with it to give it more of an umph. The gumbo was great. Although they had sprinkled a little too much seasoning over the rice. No idea what it was but it was a little over powering. But over all good gumbo. Had chunks of chicken, sausage and shrimp. Had a side of potato salad which was pretty standard and a piece of cornbread. Bread was slightly dry, as it crumbled every time I put my fork to it to take a bite. My friend ordered the ribs with a side of rice and she said they were tasty. Can't speak much on it but she devoured her plate so I take that as a good sign

We stopped here for lunch after a hard bike ride on 24-5-18 and I'm surprised it wasn't busier because the food and drinks hit the spot! I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with tangy crunchy slaw (not Mayo heavy thank goodness) and got some delicious cornbread on the side. If I go back, I may get the half pound pulled pork plate with two sides (that my colleague got) to compare. I was impressed with their extensive craft cocktail selection, and finally chose a cocktail whose name I forgot but it has bourbon and strawberry jam and it was nicely balanced. My colleagues reported that their brisket plates and backyard salad were delicious and their beer selection was good. We also ordered two plates of curly fries since we demolished the first one. A great spot to consider for a corporate lunch or dinner or pre- baseball game Logistics: - limited street parking nearby - indoor seating only - limited vegetarian options

There is very few bbq restaurants in SF, so glad to try this out. I walked 20 mins from the Orpheum but it's in a nice area. Good choice since we bought tickets to MJ the Musical after dinner. Solid bbq pork ribs but I didn't like the sauces. They only had a mustard tasting and spicy bbq sauces, but not my favorite honey bbq. My friend and I shared the half rack ribs $32, and ordered 2 corn muffins $2.50 each. The ribs doesn't come with any bread without ordering the corn muffins. Or it's $8 for 2 sides. A lot of TVs showing sports but seems like they muted the sound that night cause I couldn't hear any of the Warriors game. Very high stools and bar like atmosphere. Looks like a fun place to watch a game if they turn up the sound.
